David King has been involved in motorsports his entire life. His father first inspired him to become involved in club driving events when he was only 12 years old. Being a mechanic by trade, his Dad had always been involved in building and fabricating race / rally cars – and to this day, his Dad is still heavily involved in building and working on the projects which David is involved with.
David has participated in the in the 2013 Alpine Rally of East Gippsland, in his 1977 Datsun 200B Rally Car. David first built the car in 2005 to complete in the NSW State Rally Championship. After finishing third in 2005 and 2006 he was then selected by the CAMS driver development program. In 2007 he actually sold the vehicle but it was re-purchased in 2013. Constantly developing and updating the vehicle, it now features;
Engine: L20b stroked to 2.4L with twin 48mm Weber carburettors
Gearbox: SR20 5 speed with Hollinger gear set
Differential: Nissan R200 4.6:1 LSD with KAAZ centre
Suspension: Front – MCA adjustable remote canister Macpherson struts. Rear – Tough Dog adjustable Macpherson struts.
in 2013 there were been a number of successes for David and team. The rally is David’s favourite event on the calendar – it’s an Australian icon as well, being one of the oldest surviving motor races in the world! Only the French Grand Prix, the Monte Carlo Rally and the Indianapolis 500 have been running for longer.
Answering the question, “why Lightforce”, David says; “Lightforce was an easy choice for us. With a number of our competitive stages being run at night through forests and remote areas, we need the most efficient and effective light. Lightforce spotlights provide us with a light weight and very durable housing, which stands up throughout a rally. The Lightforce spotlights also provide us with superior light performance, with minimal load on our electrical system. Reliability is a huge factor in rallying and again Lightforce deliver in this area.”
